Plastic artist Pierre-Philippe Hofmann followed Alain Platel and his company les ballets C de la B, during the entire creative process of his 2016 show nicht schlafen presented on the site of the Bijloke in Ghent. The video installation of the show decomposes the high points of the choreography. It is not deployed like a making of, but offers the audience to see what is usually hidden, the many moments of uncertainty and research and various improvisations.
Responding to a double logic, the mechanism spreads over several screens and centres on the image. Although each video claims its own narrative structure, a new level of reading appears when switching from one screen to the next, each highlighting one aspect of the creative process.
