Church Of Sound is the prominent London hotspot. Every month, the crème de la crème of the contemporary jazz scene gets together in the famous St. James The Great Church in East London. The vibe is on par with that of legendary jazz club Birdland in the ’50s, in the heart of New York. The format is as simple as it is unique. An ensemble plays in the middle of a church and is encircled by the audience. Regardless of their own repertoire, the focus each time is on a songbook by a jazz legend. For the first time, Church Of Sound now leaves its shores and makes the crossing to the European mainland. Basecamp will be the former convent and current art centre Les Brigittines.

Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble

This series will be initiated by the famous Ethnic Heritage Ensemble from Chicago, (with the 65-year-old percussionist and AACM-member Kahil El’Zabar as pivotal figure). Their latest album ‘Be Known Ancient/Future/Music’ again deals in delightful spiritual and afro-futuristic jazz. El’Zabar also takes on the impressive songbook of John Coltrane & Pharoah Sanders.
