Coats of arms and standards have been used for centuries to distinguish opposing sides in battle, or to indicate belonging to a community or town.

Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi use the flag with mastery and precision to play on its symbolic power, while also exploring its capacity to amaze us and divert us from the object’s easy fascinations into unexpected, simultaneously seductive and threatening realms.

Ara! Ara! is not the heraldic eagle of power or unifying identity, but the ARA parrot. This colourful bird is capable of repeating sounds, words and phrases without being aware of their meaning, just like a totem animal in the mirror we hold up to our increasingly communicative societies.
