Taking the train... A harmless gesture, a change of scenery, an escape. For the young Steve Reich, the train represented the incredible journey he regularly made between New York and Los Angeles in the company of his nanny during the Second World War. Half a century later, the composer asks himself: what trains would the Jewish child he was have taken had he lived in Europe? Different Trains brings the strings of the quartet into dialogue with the voices of those who experienced the Shoah.
