The angles, the lines, the pure geometry a body may assume when bared in the stark simplicity of open space. Here, the dancer becomes a study in stillness and motion—confronting the sharp clarity of all that slips beyond her grasp, and all that she builds with such effortless grace. There is no crescendo of surprise, only a quiet release of tension, a surrender of nerves, a graceful unfolding of limbs guided by an instinctual pulse. And then—unexpectedly—meaning blossoms. And with it, a breath of liberation.
In Body Monologue, Anastasia Valsamaki crafts a language that is both crystalline and deeply resonant. As she muses, “a movement can be as complicated and simple as a thought.”
