In its strange and piercing enigma, a black angel appears—emerging as if sprung from our dreams. It shifts and reshapes, traversing epochs; its form hollowing, elongating—until beauty, uncanny and ancient, rises from within. Mysterious beings stir inside it, echoing myths from time's first whisper. It imprints upon the mind a vision—indelible, unshakable.

Trained in dance, martial arts, and butoh, Kitt Johnson works on the fundamental states of the body, invoking the metamorphosis that awakens the ‘other’ within. With movement utterly her own, and a presence that commands the void, she has become a living emblem of Nordic dance.

Stigma
premiered during the festival Singles at Statens Museum for Kunst in 1999.
